Wool from Germany, regionally produced and dyed with plant-based dyes – that's Ylva. This wool is the origin of Hey Mama Wolf and was part of the line from the very beginning as sheep's wool No. 03. We've changed the name, but the quality remains the same.
The raw wool is collected from small sheep farms in northern and eastern Germany and dyed with plant-based dyes in Hesse. The dye works thoroughly tests the plant-based dyes for wash and lightfastness. This ensures that the lovingly selected and typical Hey Mama Wolf colors will bring joy for a long time.
With Ylva, we actively support small German sheep farms that often struggle to sell their wool at a fair price. German wool is rustic and durable without being particularly rough. Whether you're knitting a sweater, a jacket, or a large shawl, Ylva can do it all. It's also excellent for textured or brioche stitch patterns, or for multi-colored knitting.
Pro tip: Be sure to wash the gauge swatch before judging it. Ylva really blooms after washing and becomes beautifully soft!
