- Care instructions: Hand wash only. Caution: Dyeing silk in these deep colors requires a lot of dye. Therefore, the garment may bleed slightly during the first wash or transfer some color when worn. We recommend rinsing it in cold water with a little vinegar before wearing it for the first time. Also, avoid wearing it over a white blouse or trousers immediately. Gauge: Bourette silk tends to stretch. Please be sure to measure the gauge swatch after it has been washed.

Our Soft Silk from BC Garn is spun from bourette silk. It has the pleasant climate-regulating properties of silk, but is not as cool and not as smooth and "slippery" as many mulberry silk yarns. This is because: After the long-fiber mulberry silk has been extracted from the main part of the cocoon, its remnants are used to produce bourette silk. This "waste product," interspersed with irregularities, has its price: a favorable one, in fact. And those with sensitive skin and allergy sufferers will appreciate knitted items with an interesting look and soft feel. Due to the high content of silk gum (whose smell dissipates relatively quickly), bourette silk is said to have natural healing properties – it also has anti-inflammatory effects and soothes the skin.
