Prejudices against alpaca yarns can easily be dispelled with this yarn. "Babyalpaca 10/2" from BC Garn is not only wonderfully soft but also boasts the second finest fiber category among alpaca yarns with 22 to 24 microns (micron is the measure of the average thickness of a hair). Only the so-called Royal Alpaca with 19.5 to 22 microns is softer. This even makes alpaca skeptics weak. This Baby Alpaca has the perfect strength for feather-light sweaters and jackets or fine cuddly blankets and scarves.

The explanation why this alpaca yarn does not scratch is simple: Thicker hairs, twisted into a thread, protrude sideways - corresponding yarns are perceived as scratchy. Fine hairs, on the other hand, "nestle into the thread," so to speak, do not protrude, and are thus very soft. Simple physics: the finer the hair, the softer the wool.
