This durable sock yarn not only has wonderful colors, but also some invisible advantages: the polyester content is made from recycled PET bottles for the sake of the environment. In addition, an environmentally harmful superwash treatment with chlorine has been avoided. Of course, this wool is also mulesing-free. The label says hand wash, but it can easily withstand the wool wash cycle of most machines. The yarn is spun and dyed in India.
As you may have already suspected, this yarn is a very special one:
The bookseller Miriam Cahannes, Veronika Hug, Susanne Oswald and her husband Bernd Oswald want to break the current record of 35,500 hand-knitted socks on a clothesline.
After the event, these socks will be donated to homeless shelters, aid buses and stationary aid organizations in Germany and corresponding institutions in Switzerland. For this occasion, they founded the association "Sockenweltrekord" (Sock World Record). With the world record attempt, they want to bring the issue of homelessness to public attention, raise awareness and collectively make the world at least 36,000 pairs of socks warmer and friendlier. Are you in? You can start knitting right away, but the official cast-on will take place at the Swiss Yarn Festival (SYF) 2026. Then knitting will continue for a year, and the world record attempt will take place at SYF 2027.
