The finest baby alpaca (22 microns) in a slightly thicker version, ideal for sweaters, jackets, scarves, and hats. Baby alpaca has particularly fine fibers and is therefore comfortable even on sensitive skin. Many people have preconceived notions about alpaca wool, which they only know as scratchy. However, there are significant differences. Ours, at least, is incredibly soft!
Alpaca wool is classified into categories according to its fineness. This refers to the fineness of the individual hair, not the length (running length) of the yarn. The measurement is given in microns. The fewer microns, i.e., the finer the yarn, the softer the alpaca yarn. There are indeed alpaca wools so fine that they feel like cashmere.
More information can be found in our "FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions" section.
The alpacas on our supplier's farms are sheared once a year, for the first time at about 10 months old, so by no means as "babies", as the name might suggest.
