BC Garn Babyalapaka 10/2 RAS is cuddly soft, wonderfully warm, and thanks to its fantastic range of colors, always a joy to knit with. Baby alpaca, at 22 to 24 microns, is the second finest fiber category of alpaca wool. Because of its delicate down, it is ideal for anything that should be light yet warm, such as knitting feather-light sweaters or fine shawls and scarves.
RAS stands for Responsible Alpaca Standard and guarantees not only complete traceability throughout the entire supply chain, but above all, that the animals are kept in species-appropriate conditions and gently sheared. Our certificate number is CUC-890756-RAF-03021.
Since alpaca yarn stretches slightly after washing, it's important to wash the gauge swatch before measuring! This is the only way to get a realistic gauge swatch, and it also allows the yarn to really bloom and unfold its true beauty.
The 10/2 refers to the running length. 10 means that the yarn has 10 meters of run per gram, i.e., 1000m/100g. The /2 means that it is doubled, so the thread is essentially folded and therefore twice as heavy, meaning it now has only 5m/1g, i.e., 500m/100g, or 250m/50g.
