The wool of the endearing alpaca animals (belonging to the group of New World camels) differs significantly in fiber length and fineness. The entire range spans from 19.0 microns (Baby Alpaca) to 35.9 microns (Strong). These differences not only affect durability and thermal performance but, above all, softness. Anyone who has ever worn a cheap alpaca sweater, such as those often offered at Christmas markets here, directly on their skin will hardly describe it as cuddly soft. The comparatively thick, short fibers protrude from the twist like spines. Fine, long-fiber qualities, on the other hand, are truly buttery soft and have a slight shimmer. Alpaca warms beautifully and is breathable at the same time. It feels slightly heavier than, for example, sheep's wool, which gives knitwear a gently flowing drape. Further advantages: Due to its low lanolin content, alpaca is even suitable for some allergy sufferers, and with alpaca, there is practically no pilling effect.
