"Ohhh, so cozy!" exclaims my colleague when she first holds the Reborn Jeans sample skein in her hands. And indeed, this yarn, made from recycled jeans and jackets, is unusually soft and feels more like a blend of bourette silk and wool. Its affordable price and the large needle size also make it a perfect yarn for sweaters, even for beginners.
Reborn Jeans are made from recycled jeans and jackets. All non-denim components, such as metal or other materials, are removed, and then the material is sorted by color. Special machines tear the fabrics apart and turn them into fibers that can then be spun into yarn. The raw material is neither bleached nor dyed. Therefore, Reborn Jeans are only available in the eight colors found in jeans: four shades of blue and four shades of gray/black. The polyester content, needed for stabilization, is made from recycled PET bottles.
The raw material is sourced in India, where the yarn is spun in the same spinning mill that produces Reborn Wool for us. It's a family business, owned by a father and son, that primarily spins industrial yarns. They developed this hand-knitting yarn especially for us.
