How it all began
When I decided to fulfill my dream of opening an online yarn shop in 2009, I spent a long time thinking about the name and the selection of yarns. Of course, only yarns I would happily knit myself were allowed in the assortment. After all, I was and still am my own best customer. What did all these yarns have in common? They were all incredibly soft and had beautiful, truly flattering colors. That's how the name schmeichelgarne.de (flattering yarns.de) came about. And my target group was women and men who were already quite skilled knitters and were looking for exactly the yarns I liked: high-quality, sustainable, predominantly thinner natural yarns without any frills or bling (okay, we do have a little bit of bling in our assortment now, too).

What has changed
I never would have dared to dream back then that we would one day receive orders from South America, Dubai, Russia, or Korea. But in recent years, we've become increasingly international. And how on earth do you pronounce "sweet yarn" in English? How is a Spanish- or Russian-speaking knitter ever supposed to remember that name? So we needed a new name that would evoke the right associations for knitters all over the world and be easy to remember – soul-wool.com seemed fitting, because all our yarns are hand-selected by me with great care and have a soul, a story: When the first GOTS-certified yarns from BC Garn appeared on the market, we were the first to include them in our range. When we were offered the fair-trade, hand-dyed dream yarns from Manos del Uruguay , I fell in love immediately.

And something else has changed: A new target group has emerged.
More and more young people are rediscovering knitting and are being courted by various shops specifically geared towards beginners. YouTube and the bold designs of talented up-and-coming designers are encouraging this new generation of DIY enthusiasts to quickly tackle more challenging projects and place higher demands on yarns: They want yarns that are animal-friendly, environmentally friendly, free of harmful substances, sustainable, and produced under fair conditions, and that are truly enjoyable to knit with. If you belong to this target group, I want to be there for you with my shop and my experience from almost 50 years of knitting! That's why soul-wool.com will not only offer carefully produced yarns that I've personally tested, but also books , patterns , tips, tricks on our FAQ page , and videos .

In my product descriptions, I try to give you as much information as possible, but of course, pictures aren't the same as feeling, smelling, or seeing the yarn in person… That's why we have a generous exchange policy with a practically unlimited return period for our regular yarns. And of course, you can always call or email us with your questions. Ivonne, Grit, Ivi, and I do our best to make you feel as comfortable with us as you would in your favorite local yarn shop.

Speaking of local yarn stores: Please support brick-and-mortar retailers! On each of our product pages, you'll find a map showing the shops that carry the yarn. Perhaps one of them is right near you!
