Soul Wool is the new name of the traditional online shop schmeichelgarne.de, founded by Britta Kremke in 2009. With great heart and passion, Britta created a unique brand over many years – for knitters who seek quality, sustainability, and soul in their yarns. Now Britta is enjoying her well-deserved retirement, and we are continuing her passion project with the same enthusiasm and dedication.

A passion project with history

"My baby is leaving the nest!" – this is how Britta once began her blog post when schmeichelgarne.de took a big step: moving into the new brand world of Soul Wool.

For Britta, it was an emotional moment: pride and melancholy at the same time. After all, Schmeichelgarne.de stood for everything she loved – yarns with character, quality, and heart. Even though Britta is no longer actively involved in the team, her spirit, her sense of beauty, and her passion for sustainable wool live on in Soul Wool.

Our team continues her path – with the same enthusiasm, with attention to detail, and with the commitment to offer yarns with and for the soul.

The beginning of Schmeichelgarne.de

In 2009, Britta founded her online shop for high-quality natural yarns – a small sensation in the German-speaking world at the time. She only selected what she liked to knit herself: sustainable, fine, soft yarns with beautiful, flattering colors. This is how the name Schmeichelgarne.de came about – and a community that valued quality over mass-produced goods.

Soon, orders were going all over the world – to South America, Dubai, Russia, and Korea. But with growing internationality came a new challenge: a name that also works in other languages.

From Schmeichelgarne to Soul Wool

This led to the idea of a new brand – more modern, more international, but with the same soul.

The name Soul Wool precisely describes what was always important to Britta: yarns that tell stories.

Together, we have continued this philosophy and refined the assortment:

The assortment grew to over 100 yarns in more than 3000 colors – consistently high quality, responsibly produced, and selected with great care.
