Here comes Lotti!

Hier kommt Lotti!
Lotti is nine years old, lives in Norway, and is wearing her first self-knitted dress. At nine years old! How did she manage that? Well, she has a lovely grandmother in Hamburg who had a rather clever idea: During a visit to her granddaughter, the grandmother grabbed some leftover yarn from her ample stash and knitted the tricky upper yoke for a top-down raglan sweater. She fitted all the openings, which now simply needed to be knitted in the round in stockinette stitch, with different needles and showed Lotti how to knit in the round. She didn't quite manage with the double-pointed needles, but because Lotti still has relatively small hands, she got on perfectly well with the short circular needles.

Lotti returned to Norway, and two weeks later she proudly sent her Grandma Margret these photos of her finished knitted dress. "My friends thought it was a bit strange that I was sitting there knitting while they were busy with their phones, but that didn't bother me. I really wanted to finish the dress," she told her grandma. And Grandma is happy that Lotti can now wear a warm souvenir next Norwegian winter and won't have to freeze anymore: "...the yarn wasn't the best, but I still had it, and it's nice and warm," Grandma Margret wrote in her email.

Lotti wasn't even born when we sold our first skeins of yarn on schmeichelgarne.de 12 years ago. If our online shop can grow alongside the next generation and inspire them with high-quality yarns, modern patterns, and tips and tricks gleaned from years of experience, that's the greatest thing for us. For those just starting out with knitting, we've created some helpful video tutorials: In our video series "Knitting for Beginners," we explain step by step how to cast on stitches, knit and purl stitches, increase and decrease stitches, and cast off. We'll also be releasing some new patterns in the coming months that Lotti might like. We welcome your feedback!
